MINI F56 Cooper Tuning Box Review
After browsing YouTube one day, I stumbled upon a video of two guys getting their new Strat-2 MINI F56 Cooper Tuning Box fitted to an F56 at Hybrid Tune.
Curious, I did what I always do and watched every related video I could find and decided to see if Hybrid Tune could do the same for my car. I reached out, and Sam confirmed it was possible, so I booked an appointment.
The installation was quick, about 20 minutes and I was on my way. I didn’t test it out immediately since I had a 180-mile motorway journey ahead, which wasn’t the best place to put it to the test. But once I got home and filled up with 99RON fuel, I was ready to see what this Mini F56 tuning box could do.
On regular drives, you’d hardly notice any difference; it’s just as docile as the standard setup. But switch to SPORT mode, hit 3rd gear at 3500 revs, and floor it and wow, does it take off. The car pulls so much harder and keeps on going. Even my 13-year-old, who’s a tough critic, noticed the difference immediately. It feels like a completely different car in the best way possible.

Back on regular roads, it’s back to its usual self, which is exactly what I wanted. Hybrid Tune claims around 250bhp, and while I haven’t put it on a dyno to check, I can tell you the car has been transformed for the better by the tuning box. I’ve got some trips planned to the Alps and other places, and I’m confident the car is now perfectly suited for both long drives and fun mountain climbs.
No engine management lights have come on, and I’m planning to leave the tuning box in place even when I take it to my local Mini dealer for servicing. My Mini’s warranty is almost up, so I’m not too concerned about that. I don’t foresee any issues, but only time will tell.
